I thought I didn't get one just because I'm a woman!

On a serious note, I appreciate your thoughtful and honest perspective. It is challenging to create a presentation that is compelling and find appropriate, engaging metaphors and humor. I'd love to hear you speak someday.

SarahSarah Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06354323914649461130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9944221.post-59487364278755838962009-05-01T13:16:00.000-05:002009-05-01T13:16:00.000-05:00Well said, Neal! To be honest, even without the metaphors in your slides, the topics you were or have been presenting are interesting enough for me to sit through the whole presentation without falling asleep. For example, your Ruby metaprogramming talk is very interesting. It is a supplement to Dave Thomas's Programming Ruby book (great book by the way) for me. But, the matrix slides do provide "mental break" for us to sit through 1 hour and 45 minutes of your talk ;). The trick here is in order to present a technical topic well, you have to understand the topic a lot better than average programmer and deliver it in an insightful way. I don't like to go to a presentation where I can learn all about it by reading a book. That is a waste of my time. If we have to end up using porn to keep people interested, that is just one very bad presentation and the presenter is either lazy or does not know the topic very well in order to present it in an interesting way. I will never attend his/her presentation anymore. Period.

Keep up the good work and thanks for all those great presentations!Shih-gian Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09583109679267875809noreply@blogger.com
